1. the internet is not changing the socio-economic character of civic engagement in America
- Because no matter what some people just arent interested in politics.
2. those who are lower on the socio-economic ladder are less likely to go online or to have broadband access at home, making it impossible for them to engage in online political activity.
- Its not impossible, they could go to someone elses house or the library. Even if they did have the interent, it doesnt mean that they would automatically be interested in online politics.
3. 33% of internet users have a profile on a social networking site and that 31% of these social network members had engaged in activities with a civic or political focus.
- Just like lying and saying you voted, some or most of them do it just because they dont wanna be the only person not doing it.
4. Some 37% of internet users aged 18-29 use blogs or social networking sites as a venue for political or civic involvement, compared to 17% of online 30-49 year olds, 12% of 50-64 year olds and 10% of internet users over 65
- Thats because those older people grew up reading the paper or watching the news, not using the internet for political information.
5. Just over one-third of Americans (36%) are involved in a civic or political group
- Thats weird, I thought it would be a lot more.
